He is 5 years old and weighed 24 pounds when admitted. He came in severely malnourished and had a vitamin A deficiency leaving him blind in one eye. His mom did not have enough money to feed him so was just waiting for him to die. A kind neighbor lend them money to come to our clinic. It took them 5 hours get here on both moto and a car. He lives in a 4 room house with 16 other people. The house is made of is made of rock and tin and they also have an outhouse. It takes them to 1 hour to go get water. His mom does not work however his dad is a farmer. He grows beans, corn and pumpkin. The day he got to our clinic, he had nothing to eat and the day before he had some soup. He was started on the F-75 therapeutic milk and then graduated to our Medika Mamba program.

Nelson

He is 4 months old and weighed 6 pounds 6 ounces when admitted. He came in with severe edema from kwashiorkor. His mom is staying here with us also to see if we can get her milk to come in. At home, his mom buys items in bulk and then resells them and his dad is a farmer. He grows beans, corn and pumpkin. They live in a 4 room house made of rocks, clay and tin. He has one other sister. They do not have running water for a toilet or an outhouse. It takes them 2 hours to get water. On the day of his arrival, he did not have anything to eat however the day before he had some oatmeal. It took them 6 hours to get here on moto.

Mayson

He is 3 years old and weighed 23 pounds when admitted. He was referred to us by Children’s Health Ministries. He was very swollen from having kwashiorkor and also had worms. There was no desire to eat at all. He has one other sister and they live in a 2 room house. The house is made of tin and wood. They do not have running water for a toilet but they do have an outhouse. It is only a short 5 minutes to get water. His dad is a baker and his mom buys items in bulk and resells them. They traveled 4 hours to get here on both moto and car. They day he arrived, he had nothing to eat but the day before he ate some spaghetti. He was started on the F-75 therapeutic milk but then graduated to the Medika Mamba program.

Evens

He is 19 months and weighed 18 pounds when admitted. He came in swollen with edema from his kwashiorkor and he was also having diarrhea. He has 1 brother and 2 other siblings that have died. His dad is a farmer and grows beans, corn and grain. His mom does not work. They live in a 2 room house made of clay, rocks and tin. They don’t have running water for a toilet or an outhouse. It takes them 3 hours to go get water. The day of his arrival, he had eaten some cheese puffs and the day before he had rice. It took them 6 hours to arrive at our clinic on foot. Benita

She is 3 years old and weighed 20 pounds when admitted. She was referred to us by Children’s Health Ministries. On arrival, she had severe edema from her kwashiorkor. This is her second time with kwashiorkor and she has had 3 other siblings who have died from sickness as well. Her mom and dad both buy items in bulk and then resell them. She has 4 sisters and they live in a 1 room house. They don’t have running water for a toilet however they do have an outhouse. They buy their water from a car that comes by. The day she arrived, she had eaten some fried street food and the day before she had some corn. She was started on the F-75 therapeutic milk and then graduated to the Medika Mamba program.

Sophonie

She is 2 years old and weighed 17 pounds when admitted. She was referred to us by Children’s Health Ministries. She refused to eat the Mamba they gave them and also had edema from her kwashiorkor. The travel here took 4 hours by both moto and car. The day she arrived, she had eaten eggs, juice and crackers. The day before some rice and sauce. She has 1 younger sister and both of her parents buy items in bulk and then resell them. They live in a house made of brick and tin. They do not have running water for a toilet however they do have an outhouse. They have to buy their water. She is currently on our Medika Mamba program.

Rejinald
