Maylove
Maylove will turn 10 next month. Her dad is a farmer, and her mom resells items in the market. The closest water source to her house is about 25 minutes away. She hadn’t had an appetite for a couple weeks when she came in, and was losing weight. She weighed 13.6 kg (29.92 lb) when she came in.
Neila
Neila is 10 months old. She is from Lagonav island. Her and her mother traveled by boat, car, and motorcycle in order to reach the clinic. Her mom brought her in because Neila was very swollen and was having breathing problems. She has had Kwashiorkor’s twice before her mother said. She weighed 6.5 kg (14.3 lb) when they arrived.
Woudy
Woudy’s mom has passed away, and he is taken care of by his dad. He has six older siblings, five brothers and a sister. His dad is a farmer, growing beans, corn, and plantains. His grandma helps takes care of him and his siblings. His dad brought him in because he had been swollen for a little over a week. He also had no appetite, was having diarrhea, and had a cough. Woudy weighed 14.5 kg (31.9 lb) the day he came in.
Clavensky
Clavensky is 5 months old, and came in to the clinic with his mother. She brought him in because he wasn’t gaining weight and he had started having diarrhea. He was 5.1 kg (11.22 lb) when they arrived. He hadn’t eaten anything the day he came in, but he normally has an appetite and eats soup. He hasn’t started to crawl yet.
Mariona
Mariona is 2 ½ years old. She has an older brother and sister. She came in swollen, and her mother reported that she had been having diarrhea and seizures. She also had a cough. It took them 5 hours to get to the clinic, paying for motorcycle and open taxi rides. She was 8.2 kg (18.04 lb) when they came in.
Jean Pierre Abraham
Jean Pierre Abraham is 4 years old. He came into the clinic with his mom. When we asked her what she called him, she said very plainly, Jean Pierre Abraham. Well what about if he’s in trouble or you need to get his attention quickly, we asked. She just looked at us confused and said, Jean Pierre Abraham. So, that is exactly what we call him! Jean Pierre Abraham came into the clinic with swelling and a decreased appetite. His father has passed away, so he lives with his mother, uncle, grandmother, and two siblings. He has been hospitalized for febrile seizures in the past, but has never been treated for malnutrition before. He weighed 14.9 kg (32.8 lb) when he came in.
Michelet & Machelet
Michelet and his brother Machelet are 9 and 8 years old, respectively. Their father disappeared 6 years ago, and no one seems to know where he went. Five years ago a friend took the boys, trying to help the mother out; however, a year later they abandoned the boys on the side of the road. A concerned woman in the area took on the job of trying to find out who these children were and where their family was. She was able to find a paternal aunt who hadn’t seen the boys in 2 years. It was these two women who brought the boys into the clinic. They were both swollen and undernourished, but have good appetites and have begun to smile again. Michelet (pictured on the left) weighed 10.7 kg (23.5 lb), and Machelet (pictured on the right) weighed 15.3 kg (33.7 lb) when they came in.
Schnaider
Schnaider is a very talkative 2-year-old. He was brought in by his mother with swelling. It was the third time he’s been swollen, but his mother couldn’t recall exactly how he had been treated before at other clinics. He hadn’t been hospitalized though. He has a good appetite and was put on mamba for several weeks before being admitted with worsening swelling. Schnaider lives with his parents and two living siblings. He was just under 10 kg when he was admitted (21.8 lb).
Roseberline
Roseberline is a 16-month-old little girl who has been losing a considerable amount of weight over the last several months. She was 6.4 kg (14.1 lb) when she came in, and had been vomiting and having diarrhea (often too many times in a day for her mother to recall the number). She had been put on Mamba, through another program, 5 months ago, but they abandoned the program soon after because they lost their clinic card. When they returned months later, Roseberline was sick and the program referred her to us. Roseberline has 2 living siblings, 4 and 7 years old, and another that was stillborn. She lives with them and both her parents.

February 25, 2017 at 8:07 pmHello, We visited this past week with Andy Carr and a group from Feed My Starving Children. I sat with a sweet little girl in a blue dress (I have a photo) who had swollen knees and has vision problems. I didn’t get her name. I would like to pray for her specifically by name. Also, I have a close friend who is an eye surgeon and want to get more information and see if there is anything that we can do to help her further. Please stay in touch. Thank you!
