ANSELOT
Anselot was referred to us from another clinic nearby. He has been having signs of kwashiorkor for about one month now. This is his first time with kwashiorkor. He has been sick for about 2 months with fever, cold, and diarrhea. He has 2 other brothers at home and his mama is expecting another child. His papa is a farmer, but his parents do not live together. His papa grows beans and corn in his gardens. His mama is his primary caregiver. She buys items in bulk and resells them for a profit. They live in a 2 room rented house. They do not have running water or an outhouse at their home. He was started on the F-75 therapeutic milk and then graduated to the medika mamba program.
ABIGAELLE
She is 9 years old and weighs 23 pounds. When her mama died several years ago from TB, she and a few siblings were placed in an orphanage. A friend of RHFH has been visiting the orphanage to monitor the children’s weight and noticed she was falling behind. She has responded well so far to the medika mamba and we are hopeful she will have a full recovery.
KATTIANA
She is 15 years old and weighs 53 pounds. She also is in the beginning stages of kwashiorkor. Both of her parents have left and are living in Chile. They left her with a family member who in turn sent her away to live with a family to work. After about one year, another family member went to see her and found her sick and malnourished and brought her back to her home. No family member wants to take her in right now and we are working to come up with a place for her to stay. She has started on the medika mamba program and is responding well.
