Walter is the RHFH chaplain and a translator. He’s been working since September 2016. He is 32 years old and lives in a village called Bethel, which is about a 30 minute motorcycle ride.
He likes to participate in church services where he plays guitar and drums. He asks that you pray for him for good health, to stay connected to God, and that his family would all stay connected to God.
He lives in a cement block house with a tin roof that has 2 rooms and a porch. There is an outhouse and an outdoor kitchen. There was piped water that came close to the house, but a flood in 2007 washed all the pipes away. They get water out of the river now. The home is owned by his cousin whom also lives in the house. There are several houses that are grouped together that are all owned by the family.
His father died in 2010 and his mother just recently died in 2018. They had eight children, four girls and four boys, whom all still live close to each other.
The thing that he likes most about his work is that he leads people to accept Jesus. He likes to talk about God and encourage people. There isn’t anything in his job that he doesn’t like. Transportation to and from the clinic is sometimes difficult and costly, but he does his best to always come to work. Pray that his transportation situation gets easier. He thinks that he could do a better job if he had more Christian song books to distribute.
One thing that he will always remember about his time working at RHFH is Yvane. She was a woman with a heart condition that needed surgery, but was unable to get it here in Haiti. Since she lived here at the clinic, he saw her everyday. They prayed together and worked together. Every day at noon, she listened to a church radio program to praise and pray. They encouraged each other and also other patients and their families. One night, Yvane died suddenly. He felt that pain of death and how we can so easily be separated from those we care about for a time, but how we have a promise that we will see them once again.
During a normal day at work, he starts the day with staff devotions and prayer. After, he helps the patient come in and does devotions in the waiting area. He searches for charts of those that have lost their patient ID card. He is also responsible for the archived patient charts and enters names, addresses, and chart numbers into and Excel spreadsheet. He helps make patient charts if other staff are busy. Some days, he spends time with the kids in the rescue center singing songs and praying with them. Patients that are having a hard time or a difficult diagnosis are often in need of prayer and encouragement. He translates for Bible classes with Anna on Monday afternoons. Once a month, he inventories the Christian literature. He translates for Dr. Briana and other teams. He takes visitors on walks to show them the village.
His job helps him to make an income to live and take care of himself. Thank you to RHFH donors that make his salary and job possible. He also feels he has the blessing of God as he leads people to Christ. When asked how his job helps others, he says that it helps people to learn who God is.
He sees that RHFH helps repair malnourished kids so that they can live. There are many people with illnesses that don’t have enough money to go to private doctors or pay for prescription meds. They find care at RHFH that makes them feel better and heal their sicknesses. Many people have a place to go for just a little bit of money to find help that they wouldn’t otherwise have. Working together, we can help many people with health and the Good News of Jesus.
