New Admits to the Rescue Center

Renelson

Renelson was brought to the clinic by his grandmother.  His mom dropped him off with grandma 3 months ago.  The father, her son, does not want to take care of him, so grandma is doing it.  She has only been able to feed him 2 times a day as she does not have enough money to purchases food for everyone and infant formula for him.  She knew when he started showing signs of kwashiorkor that she needed to get him to a clinic. He also had a cough and diarrhea. The family of 11 lives in a 2-room home made of cinder block, tin.  They do not have running water at their home or a flush toilet but do have an outhouse. They get their water from a source that is about a 20-minute walk from their home.  He was started in the F-75 therapeutic milk and then graduated to the medika mamba.

RICHECARDE

This is Richecarde 2nd time in the Rescue Center.  He is 19 months old and weighs 14 pounds. The first time he was here he stayed with his mama.  This time he came with his aunt.  His dad was in a bad car accident 2 weeks before coming to the clinic and his mom is taking care of him.  Besides being severely malnourished he has a fever and cold.  The family of 4 lives in a 4-room home made of cinder block cement and tin.  They do not have running water at their home or a flush toilet but do have an outhouse.  They get their water from a piped system that is about a 10-minute walk from their home. He will also be seeing and ENT for some issues he is having.  He was started on the F-75 therapeutic milk and then graduated to the medika mamba program.

SAINTIALE

She is 27 months old and weighs 14 pounds. She was brought to the clinic by her mother.  She had been sick for several months and her weight was decreasing.  About 2 weeks before she came to the clinic, she began to develop swelling in her legs, a sign of kwashiorkor. She also had a fever, cough and diarrhea.  She has 2 living sisters at home.  Her mom stopped breastfeeding her when she found out she was pregnant with her little sister.  The family lives in a 2-room home made of clay, wood and tin. They do not have running water at their home or a flush toilet but do have an outhouse. They must walk 3 hours to the nearest water source.  She tested positive for TB and started treatment right away.  She was also of the F-75 therapeutic milk and then graduated to the medika mamba program.

WILNERSON

Wilnerson is 13 months old and weighs 11 pounds. He was brought to the clinic by his grandmother. His mom died when he was 6 months old.  She was sick and began losing weight and never went to a hospital to see if she could find help. He lives with his grandma and the dad comes and visits him often.  He has one brother.  The family of 5 lives in a 3-room home made of rocks, cement and tin. They do not have running water at their home or a flush toilet, not even an outhouse.  They get their water from a source that is about a 20-minute walk from their home. His family are farmers and grow beans, corn and grains in the gardens. Wilnerson was started on the F-75 therapeutic milk and then graduated to the medika mamba program.
