Villagers View~Travo/Cabaret

My name is Valieres S. I am the grandmother of Fedelie. She comes to the clinic each month at Cazale. It is me that has been taking care of her since she was born. She was sick since she was a baby and no one wanted her. But I wanted her and have taken care of her, I think that she would have died if I would not have been here.

I sell in the market each week to make money to feed us both. I sell bananas each week and this gives me enough food to eat and to buy a few little things that we need. I was never able to attend school but I did have someone that taught me how to write my name. I also help deliver babies, I do not do it as much now that I an older. I am now 59 years old and my granddaughter is 16 years old. We were both born in a mountain area but live in the area of Travo. I have 4 children and Fedelie makes 5. I also take care of another child that is not mine but does not have family.

Fedelie parents are both alive but they act like she never was born. Fedelie has 3 siblings but they do not come to visit her. We live in a 2 room home made of rocks and cement and covered with a tin roof. This is our home that we own we do not rent it.

I enjoy going to church and other than church and selling in the market I stay home to be with Fedelie. There are 3 churches in our area. There are not any schools right near us. The children go to school in the town of Cabaret. We do not have running water at our home and have to purchase all our water. Some days there is a truck that comes and sells water but most times we have to walk about 20 minutes to find a place to buy it.

If I had to pick one story in my life to tell you it would be this. Since I was 34 years old I have have been serving God and became a Christian. Since that time I have felt that my life has been so much better and easier for me to live. Christ takes care of me every day and there is not a bigger Grace than that for me.
