We are going to being including “words from Zach” like we have in the past from our mother. This is part of a sermon that he preached.
Proverbs 14:31
He who oppresses the poor reproaches his Maker, But he who honors Him has mercy on the needy.
Eight Common excuses for not helping the poor
- They don’t deserve help. They got themselves into poverty, let them get themselves out.
- God’s call to help the poor applies to another time.
- We don’t know any people like this.
- I have my own needs.
- Any money I give will be wasted, stolen, or spent. The actual poor will never see it.
- I may become a victim myself.
- I don’t know where to start, and I don’t have time.
- My little bit won’t make a difference.
God has a special concern for the poor. He insists that people who have made material goods should be generous with those that are needy. Providing for the poor is not just a suggestion. It is something that might require a change of attitude.
