RHA-unexpected gifts the students reflect about while living in Haiti

Unexpected Gifts

” And going into the house, they saw the child with Mary his mother, and they fell down and worshiped him. Then, opening their treasures, they offered him gifts, gold and frankincense and myrrh.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭2‬:‭11‬ ‭

As we prepared to celebrate the birth of our Savior and read through this verse, we discussed how unexpected those three particular gifts may have initially seemed to Mary and Joseph. We explored and meditated on the symbolism of each – Kingship, Worship and Mortality.

Then we turned our thoughts to unexpected gifts living in Haiti has provided  and wanted to share them with you.

Gretchen:
One of the three gifts I want to share about Haiti is the beauty of Haiti because on many of the hikes I go on with my family. There are lots of beautiful plants, trees, and views. There are also forestry parts in Haiti that are cool to go through.

The second gift I want to share about Haiti is how all the Haitians are close friends. They help each other out and always work things out. You know what they all say , “degaje”.

The third gift I want to share about Haiti is how they praise God. Almost every morning I hear people, praying or singing in the prayer house on top of the hill. I love how loud and strong people can sing in church in a beautiful place called Haiti.

Isaiah:
One gift Haiti has given me is clarity because I have time to sit , think , pray and read my Bible when I have questions.

The second gift Haiti has given me is peace because it is very quiet and simple. It is quiet and you aren’t always busy.

The last gift is kindness because all the Haitians and I’ve met was very kind to me even though we speak different languages.

These are clearly gifts from God

Grace :
Perspective – Haiti has given me many new perspectives on life. People here value and see things differently than in places like America. Haiti has shown me how beautiful different cultures are and how much one’s culture can influence how they see the world.

Beauty- Haiti is beautiful in many ways. The people, the mountains, the sunsets. I see beauty everywhere. I’m thankful that I live in such a quiet and tranquil part of Haiti where so much nature and beauty coexist.

People – The people in Cazale are hard-working people that have shown nothing but kindness to me. I’m grateful for them and especially the kids in the Rescue Center, who are fun to talk to and play with. They have show me again and again how great God’s love is.

Ameyah:

The first of the three gifts I want to share about Haiti is my friends because they are so fun to hang out with and have never left my side.

The second gift I want to share is the beaches. The beaches In Haiti are so beautiful and I miss them. The things I most the most about going to the beach are the sunsets and the seafood.

The third gift I want to share about Haiti is RHFH. I want to thank them for how much they help people in Cazale and other places too. They have really helped a lot of people and I hope they never give up. I also want to thank RHA I have been going there since first grade ! I miss all the fun activities we used to do- you guys are so much fun. I also want to thank Miss Anna for always being the best teacher I could ask for and always making sure I understand my work.
