Story told by Moliere a RHFH staff member, this happened in 2016.
My name is Molière, and I’ve been working at RHFH for several years, gathering valuable experiences along the way. Among these, the stories of two brothers, Monclet and Fritzner, stand out for their impact on me.
Monclet and Fritzner were at our nutrition center due to malnutrition. We provided them with the necessary care, medication, and nutrition, and over time, they recovered well enough to go home. Part of my job involves doing home visits and checking up on the children. This led me to their home, which is a fair distance from the clinic. Upon my arrival, I found Fritzner, Monclet’s brother, in a critical state, suffering from a serious malnutrition again and he needed immediate medical attention. I quickly took a photo of him and sent it to RHFH staff, we all agreed that Fritzner needed to be brought to the center right away. His brother was also not well and so we went with both of the boys.
His parents and I took began on our way back to the clinic. We first walked and then found a motorcycle to help us. Before we left his mother gave us a blanket to wrap him in. Once we got to the main road we loaded up in a tap-tap. Many of the other passengers were complaining that he was too sick to be sitting that near to them. I looked down to see that the blanket was wet. This was from where his legs were split open due to swelling. They were complaining about this. Despite their concerns, I held him close, focusing on getting him the help he needed because I thought he might die.
At the center, Fritzner received the care and medication required for his recovery. It was rewarding to see both brothers, especially Fritzner, regain their health over time. Once he returned home more frequent visits we made and the brothers remained healthy.
Working with RHFH has been fulfilling, not just for the dramatic recoveries we witness, but for the consistent difference we make in the lives of children and their families. Helping children like Monclet and Fritzner recover and return home is a testament to the good work RHFH does in the community. I’m thankful for the opportunity to contribute to this mission and for the support of RHFH gives to many in the community.
