Staff Spotlight-Manese

Since October 2022, I have been working for Real Hope for Haiti (RHFH) as a cook for the children in the Rescue Center. My role here is fulfilling and has become a important part of my life. I live with my husband and our seven children in a three-room home made of cinder block with a tin roof. Our house has a porch, but we don’t have a shower or toilet; we use an outhouse. We cook outside, so there is no indoor kitchen. Despite these challenges, we manage and make the best of what we have.

My mother is still alive, though my father has passed away. I have three sisters and two brothers. Living in this home, we all share one room for sleeping. Our primary source of income comes from by employment and farming, where we grow various produce in our gardens.

Working at RHFH has allowed me to connect with wonderful people and build friendships. It’s essential to receive feedback from the nannies about the children’s food preferences, and we ensure a variety of fruits, vegetables, and greens are available to cook nutritious meals. Seeing the kids recover and heal is incredibly rewarding, and I know that my job is crucial in helping them gain weight and improve their health.

My workday starts early in the morning. I head to the food storage area to gather the necessary items for the day. We check the breakfast menu and begin cleaning the vegetables and preparing the meal, which needs to be ready by 7:15 am for transport to the center. After breakfast, we prepare lunch, the biggest meal of the day. We clean and prepare the meat, cook the beans (which can take over an hour), and then combine everything with rice. Once the food is ready, it is transported to the children. We then wash the dishes, clean up, and get the afternoon snack ready. Finally, we prepare a light dinner for the children, clean everything, and put the necessary items away before finishing for the day.

This job is important to me and my family. The income allows me to pay for my children’s schooling, buy food, and take care of their needs. I also have some extra money to help those in need, and even though it’s not a lot, it brings me joy to help others. I enjoy living in the calm and quiet area of Cazale. However, Cazale needs a strong leader to help the community advance further in their lives.

Real Hope for Haiti plays a crucial role in our area. They provide extensive medical help to those who are sick and those who face emergencies. They also support malnourished children, help pay for kids’ schooling, and create job opportunities. I am grateful for this job and appreciate the opportunity to do it.

I am a Christian and attend the local Episcopal Church. I ask for your prayers for my family and me, that we remain healthy and continue to have the strength to live through these challenging times.

May God bless you for your support and prayers.

Manese thank you for not only caring for your own family but caring for children that don’t have a family or their family doesn’t have the food they need. I loved reading that you sometimes have enough money to help others and that it brings you joy. I too love being able to do that when I am able. Dear God, I ask that you would put your angels around Manese and her family, protect them physically, mentally, emotionally and every other way possible. Thank you for Manese, thank you for creating her and placing her in Cazale. I ask that you continue to bless her financially that she may care for her family and help others in your name. Amen
