Culture-Water Source in Cazale

In Haiti, there is a saying: “Water is life.” This reminds us how important water is to everything we do. We need it to drink, cook, wash, clean, grow gardens, and so much more. Water is one of the many blessings God has given us. He provides it through the sea, rivers, lakes, ponds, and other sources. Today, we want to share about the water sources in Cazale and how they are so important to the community.

In Cazale, water sources play a big role in daily life. Many people get water through pipes that bring it directly to their homes. But not everyone has this access. Those without pipes may use their neighbors’ taps or go to public water sources.

When heavy rains come, the river often causes problems by damaging the pipes that cross it. When this happens, people have to find other ways to get water. They go to the river to look for spots where clean water flows, dig small channels, and create temporary water sources. These makeshift sources help the community survive during these hard times.

Back in 2008, a major cyclone hit Cazale and broke the main water pipe that crossed the river. Since then, many areas of Cazale have struggled to get water through the pipes. In some parts of the community, people still rely on the natural water sources for drinking, cooking, and other daily needs.

Water truly is life, and the people of Cazale work hard to find and use this precious resource. Whether it comes from a tap, a river, or a natural spring, water remains a gift that keeps the community going every day.
