At the Rescue Center, healing goes far beyond medicine and nutrition. Twice a day, laughter came be heard during playtime—a special part of our daily schedule that brings smiles, sparks curiosity, and supports the growth and recovery of the children in our care.
The children in the Rescue Center are divided into three groups by age, and each group enjoys age-appropriate play that helps them learn and thrive. The youngest children are often surrounded by soft toys, colorful rattles, and sensory items that help them explore their surroundings. Toddlers might build towers, push toy cars, or solve simple puzzles. The older children head outside, where they ride bikes, play group games, and enjoy the fresh air.
For our staff, playtime is more than just a part of the schedule—it’s a highlight of the day. It’s a joy to watch the children light up as they play, grow more confident, and develop new skills. It is also important for the child’s emotional and developmental journey.
Play helps children learn how the world works. As they stack blocks, match shapes, and invent imaginary worlds, they’re developing critical thinking and fine motor skills. They’re experimenting, solving problems, and building creativity in a way that no textbook could replicate.
Even more importantly, play helps children heal. Many of the kids in our center have come from heartbreaking situations. Through play, they rediscover joy and normalcy. Playing together teaches them how to communicate, cooperate, and even navigate conflict. They learn empathy, build friendships, and feel safe enough to express themselves.

It brings joy to a child who’s recovering from malnutrition, trauma, or illness. It reminds them that they are loved, that they are children, and that there’s hope.
