Guerlande’s Healing Journey

Guerlande, a 23-year-old woman from Cazale, presented to our clinic in extremely worrying health. Upon arrival, she presented with abnormal vital signs, including a persistent fever and generalized edema. Her face and limbs were visibly swollen, indicating a significant imbalance in her general condition.

Given this alarming clinical picture, we immediately performed additional tests. Laboratory results revealed severe anemia with an estimated hemoglobin level of only 7 g/dL. Given this marked anemia and her critical general condition, we decided to hospitalize her immediately to ensure close monitoring and initiate appropriate treatment.

During her hospitalization, Guerlande developed a persistent, deep cough, which raised our suspicion of pulmonary tuberculosis. To confirm the diagnosis, we sent her to get tested at a specialized clinic to undergo a tuberculosis screening test. The results came back positive. The clinic immediately began standard anti-tuberculosis treatment.

Upon her return to our facility, we continued her care. The healthcare team, composed of doctors, nurses, and nursing assistants, worked hard every day to ensure quality care. She received her medication on time, a balanced diet appropriate for her condition, all with compassionate and caring support.

Gradually, encouraging signs of improvement appeared. Her body began to reduce swelling, her cough eased, and her general condition gradually stabilized. Guerlande was no longer the same weakened young woman we had welcomed.

Throughout this difficult time, she was able to count on the faithful presence of her older sister, who accompanied her daily to the clinic. The latter expressed deep gratitude to God and to the entire medical team, emphasizing that she would never have been able to afford to have her sister treated elsewhere.

Today, even though the road to recovery is still ongoing, Guerlande’s progress is positive. Our team remains committed to providing her with the best care until she is completely rehabilitated, in the hope of seeing her return to a normal life, full of health and hope. Thank you to all of you who join in the journey to health for Guerlande and so many others.
