Words from Gretchen

Sept 1994

Hallelujah! Praise God!

We thank God for your obedience in supporting us during our time here in Haiti. We know that many of you have been—and continue to be—faithfully praying for us, and we are deeply grateful. We can truly feel the peace and joy of the Lord through your prayers. Prayer remains the most important support we need. But God has also called some to stand with us through financial giving—and we are writing today to express our sincere appreciation for your generosity.

Without your financial support, we could not continue doing the work God has called us to here in Haiti. Those who know us well know we would much rather be on the giving end of this letter. Truly, it is more blessed to give than to receive. Yet God is teaching us how to receive—for His glory. He needs faithful vessels to distribute and direct His resources for His purposes. As we remain faithful with a little, He will entrust us with more to do for Him.

One word keeps rising in my spirit: FAITHFULNESS. God is searching the earth for faithful men and women. Are we being faithful? That’s a question we should ask ourselves every single day. We should live as if Jesus were coming back tomorrow—because what if He is? Would we be doing what we’re doing now if we truly believed His return was only hours away?

It’s a hard question, and it might sting a little—but it’s good for our souls. We need to be changed. The Church, in many ways, is not where it should be. We’ve grown sleepy. But I believe the Spirit of God is shouting from the rooftops to the Church of Jesus Christ:
“Wake up! I am coming back!”

Just as the prophets Zechariah and Haggai called the Israelites to wake up from their spiritual slumber after returning from exile in Babylon, I believe the Holy Spirit is calling us now to rise and build God’s Kingdom. In these last days, we must be about our Father’s business. We must give our all to God. And trust me—I’m preaching this message to myself just as much as to anyone else.

Whether in Haiti or America, we can easily become comfortable and leave the work of the Kingdom to others. But now is the time to push forward, to stretch ourselves beyond what’s convenient, and to do all we can to share the Good News with a lost and dying world. I don’t want their blood on my hands because I was unwilling to obey God’s call.

Lord, help us to have ears to hear and hearts willing to obey.

Literally millions of souls are depending on our faithfulness to the Great Commission. It doesn’t matter if you’re a teacher, a janitor, an usher, a singer, a musician, a youth leader, a missionary, or simply someone saved by grace—we are all children of the Most High God.

Let’s do everything we can with all the passion and intensity we have—for the glory of God. Let’s do it together, so we may enter into the peace and joy of our Lord forever.

Amen. Hallelujah! To God be all the glory.

It’s always a huge blessing to hear our great friend speak for her Lord, again. She’s been gone for 20 years but her words live on and are powerfully for now. Prophetic words always speak whenever they are spoken again and again. I sure miss her and I look forward to the day we can embrace again and be together.
