On Saturday, the community group went searching for seeds and we found lots! These will be planted in sacks in our nursery and the seedlings replanted on the barren mountain sides surrounding Cazale. During the drought/dry season, the tree sheds all it’s leaves. When the rains come again, the leaves grow quickly. Here Robes and Jn Michel climb in the tree to grab all the seed pods that they could. There were so many that they eventually just started shaking the branches and they all fell down.
We gathered them all together.
And started opening the pods.
They all weren’t completely dry, so some were difficult to get open. “Degaje” means to make do with what you’ve got. So….we banged on them with rocks to get the seeds out.
These will produce hundreds of trees that we will plant on the mountains and along the road.
I found this photo of the trees in Africa and hope that one day Haiti will be as beautiful.
A girl can dream, right? Notice how skinny I am in my dream! 😉
