Berthony is 37 years old, a husband and father of four. His family depends on farming—hard, uncertain work that doesn’t always provide enough to feed everyone, let alone pay for medical care when illness strikes.
For months, Berthony endured a painful struggle. His nights were sleepless, his heart beat abnormally, and sudden waves of fear overwhelmed him without warning. At his lowest point, he told his family he believed he would not survive. Death felt close.
In his desperation, Berthony first turned to magic, hoping that those who promised healing through voudou practices could help. But nothing changed. His anxiety deepened, his weakness grew, and the darkness around him seemed to close in tighter. It was only when he turned away from that path and began attending church that hope returned. He gave his life to Jesus, and with that decision, a new journey began.
Two months later, he sought medical care. He visited a hospital, but the treatments there did not bring relief. The sleepless nights continued, his heart still raced, and his strength faded. That’s when he remembered the clinic in Cazale.
Reaching the clinic, however, was no easy choice. It was far away, requiring over six hours of travel by foot and motorcycle taxi—an enormous challenge for someone already so weak. The cost alone was a heavy burden for his family, who lived off the land.
One night, as he wrestled with the decision, Berthony had a dream. In it, he saw himself making the journey to the clinic, undergoing tests, receiving medicine—and finally feeling better. That dream gave him the courage he needed. He set out on the difficult road, step by step, fighting fatigue, doubt, and the weight of uncertainty.
When he finally arrived, examinations revealed a blood pressure was high, confirming how serious his condition truly was. The clinic team began treatment to help him manage hypertension and prevent more dangerous complications.
Berthony’s story is not one of instant healing, but of perseverance—through poverty, illness, and long distances. Every kilometer of his journey carried sacrifice, but it also carried determination. His experience reminds us of the struggles so many patients face in reaching care, and of the hope that can be found when help is finally within reach.
