Every week at our clinic in Cazale, neighbors gather with the same quiet hope: to keep their children healthy, care for infections well, manage chronic illnesses, and learn simple things that make life safer. Last year Real Hope For Haiti reached 18,916 people across 804 group education sessions — an average of about 24 people per session — plus daily one-on-one teaching between families and our clinicians. This November we’re asking you to partner with us so we can continue and expand health education that families actually use to change their lives.
What your support will do
- – 18,916 people reached through clinic education last year.
- – 804 education sessions (Tues–Fri clinic days); ~24 people per session on average.
- – 95 staff participated in employee trainings (waste disposal, CPR, mass-casualty, evacuation).
- – 47 continuing education sessions for health professionals.
- – No cholera cases in the past year and fewer intestinal infections reported.
- – Reduced severe malnutrition despite inflation and food insecurity.
- – Partnership with a hospital in Minnesota helped send 4 students to university this year (2 nurses, 1 PT, 1 doctor).
These results aren’t about giving lectures — they’re about listening, training together, and celebrating families who use what they learn to protect the people they love.
Real people — Real change
Marie (new mom)
Marie’s own mother had died and she had no one to show her how to care for a newborn. One of our nurses sat with her, showed her how to breastfeed and taught practical hygiene steps. Marie returned each month with a baby who kept gaining weight. “I’m happy to be a mom,” she said — proud and confident.
Suzette (living with diabetes)
When Suzette learned she had diabetes, she wanted to learn. She listened to our doctor’s guidance, changed her daily habits, and now keeps her blood sugar within a healthy range.
C. (finding hope)
Overwhelmed and discouraged, C. spoke with our chaplain and said he felt renewed hope: “With God, all things are possible.” Spiritual care is part of how we help people stay well in body and in heart.
David’s mom (nutrition success)
After following low-cost nutrition ideas from our sessions, her son David began to gain weight. Her whole household noticed the difference. “I love my family and want them to be healthy,” she told us — and then she acted on it.
A note about how we work
We teach with humility and partnership. Our approach is to listen first, co-create learning with families, and celebrate the steps people take in their own homes. Our staff are teachers and learners too — together with parents and leaders in Cazale, we build solutions that fit local realities.
What we will do next year — how your gift makes a plan possible
With your help this November we will raise $3,500 to fund the full year of health education. Our plans for the year ahead are practical and community-led:
- – Develop monthly lesson plans on 12 new topics driven by patients’ needs and requests.
- – Deliver lively, interactive sessions in the clinic waiting area that use videos, songs, games, skits, PowerPoints, handouts, Q&As, posters, and models so learning sticks for nearly 20,000 patients and their families.
- – Increase employee trainings from 4 to 6 topics and video-record them for future staff orientation and consistency.
- – Create 24 new patient handouts on varied topics.
- – Hold roundtable meetings with community members and local schools to guide future programming.
Line-item budget (goal: $3,500)
Educator salaries: $2,900
Training materials: $500
Posters & signs: $100
Total: $3,500
Concrete donor examples — give something tangible
$5 — funds one education session for around 25 patients.
$40 — prints 1,000 handouts to reinforce lessons at home.
$65 — funds one week of education activities.
These small gifts add up quickly to sustain dependable education on the topics families tell us they need most.
Why now — the urgency behind the ask
Inflation, food scarcity, and insecurity are pressuring families like never before. Education is a cost-effective, respectful way to help people protect their health now and build resilience for the future. Because our sessions are interactive and community-driven, every dollar goes straight into practical teaching families can use that same week.
