The importance of daily monitoring of the children

In the Rescue Center, every child’s health journey begins with careful attention and intentional care. When a child is first admitted — often sick, weak, or severely malnourished — our nurses immediately begin monitoring vital signs every 2, 3, or 4 hours. This close observation continues until each child is stable and safe. It may look simple from the outside, but these frequent checks give us essential information about breathing, heart rate, temperature, and overall progress.

Every child is also weighed daily. For children recovering from malnutrition or illness, even a few grams gained can be a victory worth celebrating. Growth tells a story — a story of healing, nourishment, and renewed strength.

If a child develops a fever or becomes unwell while in our care, they are added to the daily vital-signs list so our team can respond quickly. Every number — every temperature, every weight change — is charted carefully in the child’s personal medical record. These records help us follow trends, adjust treatment plans, and ensure nothing is missed.

It is slow work. Steady work. Sometimes emotional work. But every careful check represents one more step toward health, stability, and home.

Because here at Real Hope For Haiti, we believe every life deserves close attention, tenderness, and hope.
