My name is Verline. I’m 36 years old, and I’m the mother of five children, including my son Andrenet. Since his father passed away in January 2023, I’ve been doing everything alone to provide for my family. But nothing prepared me for what happened a few months later—a moment that changed our lives forever.
In June 2023, Andrenet was playing ball like any other day. He fell, and when he hit the ground, he landed on a piece of metal that pierced his body. It injured his intestines and bladder so severely that I thought I would lose him right there. That image will never leave my mind.
At Saint-Marc Hospital, he underwent two surgeries within fifteen days. The doctors inserted a catheter in his stomach and removed part of his intestines so he could pass stool from his stomach. Watching my child in that much pain—unable to move, unable to smile—was unbearable. Every night I prayed, asking God to give me strength.
After he healed up, he still needed another surgery to repair it all, and I had no way to pay for it. I searched everywhere, begged for help, and kept knocking on doors. Many nights I couldn’t sleep, not knowing how I would save my son.
Then the mission heard our story. And everything changed.
They stepped in. They helped us find a hospital equipped for the surgery, connected us with specialists, supported us through every test and every delay. And thanks to the generosity of donors, the mission covered the cost of the operation.
They never gave up on my son—no matter how long the process took.
Today, Andrenet has had his surgery, and he is healing well. He no longer struggles to urinate or have a bowel movement. His pain has eased. He listens to his doctors, he’s regaining his strength… and for the first time in many months, he’s not sad anymore.
Seeing him smile again feels like receiving my child back. It feels like getting my life back.
I have no words deep enough to thank the mission and the donors. You didn’t just help my son—you saved him. You restored hope to a mother who was running out of it.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you.
