GVADK has been working for many years in community development through reforestation, education, environmental protection, hygiene, and financial support projects. Today, we would like to share the importance of fencing in the environmental work we are doing.
Through the seedlings, trees, and vetiver grass we plant to fight erosion, we have been able to bring change to many degraded areas. However, for these efforts to succeed, protecting our plant nursery is critical.
Fences are a protection system that GVADK uses to safeguard nurseries, planting, and our space from free-roaming animals in the community. Without this protection, animals often enter and destroy the hard work that has been done.
When GVADK obtained its new location, the first thing we thought about was protecting the space. We considered building a wall with rocks and concrete blocks, but the cost was far beyond our financial means. After careful reflection, we decided to use fencing as a more affordable solution.
Today, the fence plays a major role in protecting our spaces. It helps us secure about 90–95% of the work we accomplish, especially in a community where free-range livestock often destroy plants and trees. Thanks to this protection, we are able to preserve our plants while the seedlings grow and continue working toward greater vegetation coverage in vulnerable areas.
We currently have a pepper garden that was fenced, and now the peppers are growing very well. The goal of this project is to generate income to support the group while continuing to protect the environment.
We use the fencing in many areas and thank our supporters for making this possible. As we get more fencing, we can continue to expand and improve our situation.
