Learning and Growing While Healing
At our Nutrition Center, healing is about more than helping children regain weight and strength. While children are recovering and waiting until they are healthy enough to return home, we create opportunities for them to continue learning, exploring, and growing.
Each day, children use educational and creative materials such as coloring pencils, paint, chalk, glue, notebooks, coloring books, poster boards, and classroom boards. These simple supplies become powerful tools that encourage curiosity and development.
Through drawing, coloring, writing, and creative activities, children learn about colors, shapes, letters, and numbers. They strengthen important skills like hand-eye coordination, concentration, and fine motor development. Using pencils and practicing writing helps prepare them for school and builds confidence in their abilities.
For many of the children we care for, this may be their first opportunity to experience learning in this way. Some children come from communities where access to education is limited. During their time at the Nutrition Center, they discover the excitement of learning in a safe and supportive environment.
These activities also bring joy during a difficult season of their lives. After facing illness and treatment, children have a place where they can play, create, laugh, and simply be children.
Thanks to the generosity of our donors, we are able to provide these materials and continue offering care that supports the whole child—body, mind, and spirit. These supplies are more than just classroom items; they help children build confidence, discover new abilities, and imagine a brighter future.
