Akamil in the Rescue Center

Every child in our Rescue Center receives specialized nutrition based on their individual needs. Children who are severely malnourished begin treatment with Medika Mamba, a therapeutic peanut-based food that helps stabilize their condition and restore their strength. As they recover and no longer require therapeutic feeding, they transition to AKAMIL, a nutritious flour that we make ourselves right here at Real Hope for Haiti.

AKAMIL is made from locally grown corn, millet, and beans. Our staff carefully prepare the ingredients and grind them in our yard to produce a wholesome flour that is rich in protein, fiber, and essential nutrients. It can be prepared as either a sweet porridge or a savory meal, giving us flexibility to provide nutritious, child-friendly meals that our children enjoy.

For children recovering from malnutrition, AKAMIL plays an important role in helping them continue gaining weight, rebuilding their strength, and receiving the balanced nutrition they need to grow and thrive. By producing AKAMIL ourselves, we are able to provide a sustainable, locally made food that supports each child’s journey from illness to health.

Every bowl of AKAMIL represents another step toward a brighter, healthier future for the children in our care.
