“I Thought I Was Going to Lose My Daughter”
As told by Widlande’s mother
I will never forget the day I brought my daughter, Widlande, to Real Hope for Haiti. She had been sick for several days, but that morning I knew something was terribly wrong. She was so weak she could no longer support herself, and her skin had become very pale. I feared I was losing my little girl.
The medical team immediately treated her as an emergency. After examining her, they suspected severe anemia and rushed her for laboratory testing. While we waited for the results, Widlande became even weaker. People around us quietly prepared me for the possibility that she might not survive.
During those frightening moments, the chaplains came and stood beside us. They prayed over Widlande, encouraged me to keep trusting God, and reminded me that He was with us even in the darkest moments. Their prayers brought me peace when I felt overwhelmed by fear.
When the laboratory results returned, they revealed that Widlande’s hemoglobin level was only 2.5 g/dL, a critically low level that required immediate specialized care. Real Hope for Haiti quickly arranged her transfer to Saint-Camille Hospital, where she could receive lifesaving blood transfusions. One of the chaplains traveled with us, praying and encouraging our family throughout the journey.
Widlande spent 29 days in the hospital receiving blood transfusions and intensive medical treatment. Throughout her hospitalization, the chaplains continued to visit, pray with us, and strengthen our faith. Their support reminded us that we were never alone.
Today, I am filled with gratitude. Widlande’s hemoglobin has increased to 7 g/dL, and she continues to recover. Looking back, I truly believe God worked through the doctors, nurses, laboratory staff, and chaplains to save my daughter’s life.
I thank God for His faithfulness and for everyone who cared for Widlande. I also thank the supporters of Real Hope for Haiti. Because of your generosity, my daughter received emergency medical care when she needed it most. Your kindness gave our family hope during one of the hardest times of our lives, and we will never forget it.
God is faithful, and we give Him all the glory.
