Fantastic Toys for Little Girls and Boys!

Kids love toys.  That’s a no-brainer, right?  Playing with toys means having fun, no doubt; but toys can also be used to help a child develop in many different ways.  Cognitive, emotional, physical, social….all areas that benefit within a child from playtime with toys.

RHFH has a new goal for the kids in the Rescue Center, and we need your help:

The toys at the RC endure a lot of handling from the 70+ kids that live here.  It is easy to understand why toys get worn out and need to be replaced.  But rather than just replace a few of the toys, we would like to develop a structured playtime that would most benefit these sweet little ones.

Structured playtime with stimulating, healthy toys.  That is what we want to provide for them.  Imagine a room full of giggling, excited toddlers and pre-schoolers, wide-eyed with anticipation of discovering what incredible new fun awaits them in their group’s activity trunk.  Perhaps yesterday, Dumond’s group played with the Musical Fun trunk, filled with kid-friendly instruments and fantastic noise-makers.  Today, he and his group will spend their playtime at the Building Blocks trunk, where they can stack, build, and stretch their imagination to new lengths.  It is certainly the most treasured time of his day!  Fun to discover and laughter to share!

Every child loves playing with a new toy, but to the children at the RC, it means so much more.  It is not a stretch to say that most of these children have never had the privilege of playing with such fascinating toys.  Shiny and new, flashing lights and delightful music, functioning batteries and dolls that aren’t missing limbs….for a child that has been raised in extreme poverty, these qualities are beyond comprehension.

So here’s how YOU can help us make this vision a reality.  RHFH is preparing once again to ship a container of supplies to Haiti from Anderson, Indiana.  Lori will be in Indiana in just a few weeks to help get the container packed.  We have come up with a very easy and cost-efficient way to allow our supporters to purchase toys for the Rescue Center, utilizing this shipping opportunity.

A “Wish List” has been set up at www.walmart.com that has many different types of toys that would benefit the kids at the RC.  Prices of the toys range from $10 to $40.  If you would like to shop for a toy, simply go to our Wish List, pick out the toy that you would like to provide, and select the FREE shipping option of “Site to Store” for the Walmart located in Anderson, Indiana.  Lori will be able to pick your toy up at the store and take it directly to the shipping container.  You won’t have to pay any shipping fees or even stand in the line at the check-out counter!

Step by step, here’s how to do it:

1.  Go to www.walmart.com .

2.  At the top of the page, click on “Registry” and then click on “Wish List” from the drop-down list.

3.  Mid-page, you will see “Find a Wish List“.  Type in the first name “Allison” and last name “Garrett”   -or-  first name “Lori” and last name “Moise” .  Then click on the “FIND” button.

4.  This should bring up one result that shows Allison Garrett as the Registrant and Lori Moise as the Co-Registrant.  The event date is September 8, which is our goal date to have everything collected for the shipping container.  The location is labeled “Elwood, IN” and it is a “Special Occasion“.

5.  Click on the name Allison Garrett or Lori Moise to go to the RHFH Wish List.

6.  Start shopping!  🙂  Follow Walmart’s directions, and it should be a breeze.

7.  When you go to check-out, be sure to select the FREE shipping option “Site to Store”.  The Anderson store should automatically be selected for you.

8.  As soon as your toy is ready for pick-up, Lori will be notified.  She will swing by the store and take it to the shipping container.  Soon thereafter, your toy will be on its way to Haiti, where it will be welcomed with open arms by many excited little boys and girls!

There is one other option that you might find of interest on the Wish List.  At the bottom of the list is the opportunity to purchase a Walmart gift card.  If you just can’t decide what to purchase, or if you just don’t have time to look through the list, this is a perfect option for you.  If most of the toys have already been purchased (how wonderful that would be!), you might would like to purchase a gift card that could allow us to buy batteries for the toys, or maybe diapers and formula, or other needs that Lori sees we haven’t received yet for the container.  This gives us some flexibility to cover all the bases.

On behalf of the kids at the Rescue Center, and all of us at RHFH, thank you for your compassionate heart and generosity.  We look forward to sharing the news and photos of the premiere of the new toys.  What an exciting day it will be; the first of many, many happy and healthy playtimes for them!

If you have any questions, please feel free to email them to allison@realhopeforhaiti.org .

Is there a deadline for buying new toys for the kids? Or is this going to be an ongoing giving option? 🙂

I tried to do this but it wouldn’t let me change stores from my home store. I got it to bring up Anderson, but not change : ( Ideas?

  3. Sharon says

I got to where the item would be delivered and I couldn’t
    pull up Elwood. Just Anderson

Hi, I just wanted to confirm the correct postal code as it asks for that. I did google it, and came up with 46013. Is that the correct one?
Call me paranoid, ha ha, but I want it to go to the right place!

  5. allison says

Yes, you got it right! The zip code is 46013 for the Walmart in Anderson, IN. Thanks for checking.

The Walmart is located in Anderson. Elwood is where our PO Box is, but there’s not a Walmart there. Thanks!

I had to change my store setting before I placed my order. That’s a bit of an incovenience, and I’m sorry for that. Be sure once you place your order, that you change your store back to your hometown – so that you don’t accidently send your next order to Anderson. 🙂 Thank you!

Our goal is to have all the items for the shipping container collected on September 8. Our next container will probably be sent out next spring, so for now, this is our only good opportunity to recieve these toys. I’m sure that we’ll try to set another wish list up for the spring container as well. Thanks for asking!

I tried for an hour to get my 10 toys to show that they were to go to Allison but they never did. I even changed the zip code, re-booted but it would show that I was picking them up in Anderson, Ind. I am so very disappointed 🙁

Lori Moise will be doing the pick-up at the Anderson, Indiana store. I think you’ve almost got it! Hang in there! 🙂

  11. Kim says

Ahhh, it wouldn’t let me purchase from Canada, so I made a small donation directly to you instead. 🙂

I was hoping to purchase a black doll, I see the two you requested have been purchased. May I purchase another or two or would you prefer wipes and diapers?

  13. allison says

There are a few black Barbie dolls on the list that were still available last time I checked. We would be happy to have whatever you would like to give. I was a bit disappointed with the small selection of dolls online, but that’s just what I had to work with. Thanks!

I was so excited to see this opportunity as I am a strong believer in good toys (and sold them for years) however, I am from Canada too so I just made a donation through paypal. Thanks to Kim for saving me a lot of trouble trying to work through the Wal-Mart website.
