CHANTELE

She was admitted with a 103.8 fever. diar, and kwashiorkor.   She is a little over 2 years old and weighs 18 pounds.  She was referred to us from a Pastor friend from the village of Orange (a 5 hour walk and taxi ride).   Chantel has 2 living sisters and no brothers.  She is currently on the medika mamba program.

DIEUNA

She is 3 months old and weighs 5 pounds.  Her mother had 2 girls and did fine breastfeeding them.  She then had a little boy.  She tried everything she could to help her body produce milk to be able to feed him, but had no success.   He died when he was 3 months old.  She then had Dieuna and is having the same problems breastfeeding her.  She is very fearful that little Dieuna is going to die.  They walked from the village of Saut-deau to come to the clinic ( a 6 hour walk and taxi ride).

GERNILIA

She has been following in the clinic for several months.  She does not have TB or HIV or any sickness that we can find.   She just needs to eat.  She had 2 living children at home.  She does not know her age.  She was admitted weighing 62 pounds.  She is from the village of Merlon (which is about a 5 hour walk).

JESNER

He is 2 1/2 years old and weighs 21 pounds 4 ounces.   He is from the village of Jn Rosse ( about a 4 hour walk).   Jesner has 4 living brothers and 1 brother that has died from kwashiorkor.    He is currently on the medika mamba program.

MILORA

She is 8 months old and weighs 9 pounds 14 ounces.  She is in the beginning stages of kwashiorkor. Milora has a older living brother. She is currently on the medika mamba program. She is from the village of Cabaret (about a 20 min taxi ride).

MARVENS

He became sick last week and his mom took him to a hospital in Port.  There were no doctors.  The students nurses that were working drew his blood and poked him all over his body.  The withdrew a large amount of blood from his body.  His mom asked them to stop and they got mad and kicked her out of the hospital and threw the blood away.  When he arrived he was near death.  He lived for about a day before he died.  They are from Carre-Four (which is about a 3.5 hour ride by taxi).

BRIGUELSON

He is 11 months old and weighs 9 pounds and is from the village of Beliac (about a 2 hour walk).  His mom died of AIDS when he was just a few months old.  He currently is also HIV positive.  His older brother and grandma have been trying to care for him but just do not have the food or time to devote to him.  Grandma is taking care of the other siblings and his brother is trying to finish up school.
