CHRISTELA

She is 1 month old and weighs 8 pounds.  Her mama is young and this is her second child.  She went to visit her sister with her new baby.  Her sister invited her to spend the night and when she woke up the next morning the mama was gone.  She has waited 2 weeks for her sister to return and she has not heard from her.  The aunt has a job and her employee gave her this week to find someone else to take care of the child.  She did not want to loose her job and so she brought her to us.  She is unsure of who the father of the child is.  On her days off she will continue to search for Christela’s mama and search as well for her papa. 

 JN SONY

He is 3 years old and weighs 25 pounds.  This is his first time with kwashiorkor.  He lives in a 3 room house made of rock and tin.  There are 7 people that live there.  They have no running water or a flush toilet, no even an outhouse.  The nearest water source is a 2 hour walk.  Jn Sony has 2 brothers and 1 sister at home.  He also has a sibling that died when it was a baby.  It the past week he has ate meat 1 time, spaghetti 5 times and rice 7 times and that is it.  The day he was admitted he had coffee and the day before he ate a bag of cheese puffs.  His family has a garden that grows corn and beans.  But they take that crop and sell it to be able to purchase rice that will make there bellies fuller. Jn Sony was put on the F-75 Therapeutic milk for several days and then graduated to the medika mamba program.

WOUDELEY

He is 3 months old and weighs 11 pounds.  His mother left their home 3 weeks ago and they have not been able to locate her since then.  His papa has been taking care of him since then.  Although he looks healthy he does have kwashiorkor and was very ill when admitted.  He has very bad bloody diar, cold, and fever when admitted.  He has 3 brothers at home and 2 siblings that have died of kwashiorkor.  He lives in a home made of old tarps that is 2 rooms there are 4 people that live int he home.  They have no running water or flush toilet,  no even an outhouse.  The get their water from a source that is a 30 minute walk from their home. 

SEBIEN

He is 4 1/2 years old and weighs 27 pounds.  He has kwashiorkor, cold/cough, fever and vomiting.  Both his parents work in the gardens and plant bananas, roots, and yams.  Sebien has 5 brothers and no sisters.  He had one siblings that died as well.  He lives is a 4 room house with 7 family members made of clay, rocks and tin.    He has no running water at his house or a flush toilet, not even and outhouse.  The source where the family gets water is a 1 hour walk from their home.  This past week he has had 2 eggs, meat twice, rice 6 times  and coffee 4 times.  This is his 3rd time with kwashiorkor. Sebien was put on the F-75 therapeutic milk for several days and has just graduated this week to the medika mamba program.

TECHELET

He is 13 months old and weighs 13 pounds.    His mom died several months ago and he has been living with his grandma since then.  He lives in a 2 room house made of rock and tin with 4 others.  He does not have running water at his house but they are able to find water within a 20 minute walk.  They also have an outhouse.  This past week he has had spaghetti and rice twice.  The other days his grandma mixed pieces of bread with chicken boulin to make a soup for him eat. Tecdhelet was put on the F-75 formula and quickly graduated to the medika mamba. 

WISELOVE

She is 2 years old and weighs 14 pounds.  Her mama died when the last tropical storm passed through when the house fell in on her.  Wislove has 1 sister and 2 brothers that live with their aunt.  No one is sure where the papa is at and they have not seen him in months.  The house she lives in is made out of rock and has just one room.  They collect their water from a source that is 2 hours walking from their home.  They have no running water at their house and not even an outhouse.   This past week she has ate spaghetti everyday, and had 1 egg, she eats lots of crackers.  The day she was admitted she did not eat anything and the day before she had 2 spoon fulls of rice. Wiselove was put on the F-75 therapeutic milk for several day and then graduated to the medika mamba.

 LOUBENSON

He is 2 1/2 years old and weighs 13 pounds 8 ounces.  His parents are both farmers.  They grow corn, beans and yams in their gardens.  Loubenson has 5 brothers and 1 sister.  He had 4 other siblings that died from diar, fevers and kwashiorkor.  He lives in a 2 room house with 9 people.  He does not have running water at his house or a flush toilet, not even an outhouse.  This past week he has had 1 egg and meat 1 time.  The day he was admitted he had soup made out of bread, and the day before he had plain white rice.   He was started on the F-75 therapeutic milk and then graduated to the medika mamba program. 

BRINEL

Brinel is 15 months old and weighs 18 pounds 4 ounces.  He has kwashiorkor, a cold/cough and fever.  He has 1 brother that is older than he is.  His mama was sick for several months and went to a doctor that told her not to breastfeed Brinel anymore.  He only told her that her blood was “bad”.   Brinel has been coming to the clinic since he was 11 days old.  As soon as his mama stopped breastfeeding him he began losing weight and getting small.  Within a few months his body was starving and not getting the food he needed.  He began swelling last week and that is when his grandma decided to bring him to the clinic.  He lives in a 2 room house made out of rocks and tin, his family does not have running water or a flush toilet or even an outhouse.  In the past week he ate 1 piece of chicken, had coffee 6 times, rice 4 times and crackers 7 times.  The day he was admitted he did not have anything to eat and the day before admitted he had coffee. Brinel was started right away on the F-75 theraputic milk and after several days graduated to the medika mamba program.
