Update from the Cholera Crib

by: Lori

The cholera house numbers have been decreasing for the last few days.  We are thankful, but cautious.  We had this situation in early December too and things didn’t go as hoped.  Our staff of 22 is doing a fabulous job and I am so proud of the care that they are giving patients.  We have had 4 deaths out of 779 patients – that’s a 0.5% death rate.  At one point the overall death rate was 6%.  These numbers are now falling and things are looking a bit better in all departments.  We have received donated items from several individuals and organizations for which we are very thankful.  We have been able to help 2 other centers with needed supplies too.  I love networking to help more people!  We ask that you continue to pray for strength for our staff, open ears when we give education, and application of needed behavioral changes to stop this epidemic.
