Tired of cholera yet? Yes, me too! But that is what is happening now. So that is what I feel like sharing today. There are currently 4 children from the RC at the cholera house. All have confirmed cholera. All are under a year old. They are doing fair and we hope to have them back with us soon. The will have to stay in a separate place for several days after they come back from the cholera house. Here they are below.
Our number are down some at the cholera house. We are so thankful for that! It did not rain for about a week. So we feel like that keep the numbers down some. But it has been raining for the last three nights so we are thinking our number might go back up in a few days. 🙁
This boy below came into the cholera house early Friday morning. He and two of his brothers both had cholera. His mom and dad both stayed with him and his brothers the whole time. He was getting better. His diar was gone and he was ready to go home. But last night he become sick and started vomiting stool. He needed to get into another hospital. But we knew it would be difficlut to find a hospital that would take him with cholera. We gave the mom and dad funds to take him into a Peds hospital in Port. They left the clinic about 11:30am and were waiting to go into the hospital. The child was talking to the dad and just died and 20 minutes later in front of our gate. It was very sad. The mom was screaming and yelling and rolling around on the ground mourning the loss of her son. The dad was in shock. His two brothers were crying and could not figure out what was going on. I took the boy and was going to lay his body in the dressing room. But there were two other patients on the tables. I held him until he died. We buried him with the rest of the those that have died of cholera.
This man just got married a few years ago to his second wife. They were married at midnight on New Years Eve. Such a cute couple. She has been there with him caring for him the whole time.
Some of the gowns made for the kids at the cholera house.
Some of our totally rocking staff that is doing such a great job of running the cholera house.
This girl was brought in by a group from her village. We have seen this stretcher several times over the past few days. The village created a group of men that carry the sick to the cholera house. I was able to meet two of the men. I thanked them and gave them a big hug and told them “mil mesi” with means a thousand thank you’s. I told them how much encouragement it gives us to see their community working together. They laughed and said “blanc se nou men pou di ou mil mesi”-white lady it is us that should tell you a thousand thank you’s.
no empty chairs so putting in an IV standing up
taking a sick person into the house
Heatline Ministries gave us a bunch of cots for the patients
We wer able to set them up so people did not have to sit in chairs
Elderly lady brought in on a door from her house
Man found in his garden passed out. His neighbors brought him down.
We finally got some plasitc sheeting today. Anna is coming in tomorrow (I AM SO EXCITED ABOUT THAT 🙂 ) and bringing some gorilla tape. We will be putting new floor covering down this week. God continues to provide each and every day for all of our needs. We cannot thank Him enough.
