Sometime a few weeks ago there was a lady named Marie-Ann. She was taking care of two of her children at the cholera house. She was 9 months pregnant. Her husband was with her as well helping to care for the children. There was a terrible rain storm one night. She went outside the back door of the cholera house and did not tell anyone where she was going. It was pouring down rain. She was in labor and did not even tell her husband. She has the little baby boy on the ground. By herself. She waited until she delivered the placenta. She then call for her husband through the back door. It was still raining and dark out side.
Her husband was so excited their son was born. He got a towel and picked the baby up with the placenta and took him inside to the nurse. She was just a little freaked out. 🙂 She called me and ask if we could take care of this problem for her as she was dealing with a full house of sick people at the cholera house. Mom, dad and baby walked down from the cholera house to the clinic. We had a team here at that time. So I called two of the team members to care for the baby-cut the cord, bath and dress him. I took care of the mother who was having a lot of bleeding. They stayed with us at the clinic for 4 days before they returned home. The other two kids at the cholera house were better so the whole family went home together.

June 30, 2011 at 8:51 pmmy brother, while in the PC in Bolivia, in 1967 talked about women giving birth in the mountain fields and going right back to work—how sad to think that now, 44 yrs. later Developing Countries are still experiencing the same conditions-but how fortunate for Marie that you were able to provide assistance.
