New patients at RHFH

This is Mirlande.  She is years 27 years old .  She currently has 4 living children and 3 that have died.  Shortly after her last pregnancy she became very ill.  She has had swelling, fatigue, and is always out of breath all the time.  We are currently treating her for this.  Mirlande was in the care of our friend Anita.  Anita was doing a great job of giving meds and caring for her.  But is this past month she became worse.  The swelling was increasing and she had to have fluids drained from her abdomen several times.  When admitted she looked to be ready to deliver a full-term baby, but she was just full of fluids.  Anita wanted to know if we had room to keep her for awhile to see if we could help.  We said yes.  Since she has been with us she has already lost a total of 30 pounds, she still looks like she is about 5 months pregnant.    She is very thin and has been sick for a long time.  We are hopeful this week she will be strong enough to travel to get some testing done for her.

If you have been following the blog for awhile you might remember Wilner.  He was admitted June of this year.  He is Mirlande’s youngest child.  Look how great he is doing now!  We are hoping that we have this much success with his mama.

TIKA

She is 13 months old and weighs 15 pounds.  She has 2 siblings at home and her mom is pregnant. When she found out she was pregnant she removed Tika from the breast.   She believes that Tika will get “bad milk” if she breastfeeds her.  But mama has not been able to feed her the foods that she needs to grow and be healthy.  Though she may appear fat in this picture she is not.  She is suffering from kwashirokor.  She is currently on the medika mamba program.

 JN REBENS

He is 2 years old and weighs 21 pounds.  He is in the beginning stages of kwashiorkor.  He has 5 living siblings at home and 1 that has died.  He is currently on the medika mamba program.

BIGENS

He is 18 months old and weighs 18 pounds 10 ounces.  This is his first time with kwashiorkor, but it is a bad case.  Bigens has 8 living siblings at home.  He has lost 3 siblings.  He is currently on the medika mamba program

We want to thank each of you that continue to support these children and RHFH. Special thanks to so many that have given to the meidka mamba program.  This is truly a product that is saving lives in the little village of Cazale.
