Staff Spotlight: Rilia

Rilia starting working at the clinic on July 7, 2007. She currently does the weights, heights, and vital signs for all of the patients coming through the clinic.

She has lived in Cazale all of her life. She is 51 years old, is married, and has 3 boys. Her father was a farmer and suffered with lots of swelling for around three years and then died about 25 years ago. Her mother is still living and she sold items in the local market. She had 2 siblings, but they passed away. Her brother died of TB about 13 years ago. Her sister had a stroke and died 6 years ago. Her oldest son is 28 year old and lives in another country. Her second son is 24 years old, lives in Chile working as a mason. Her youngest son is 18 and still in school here in Cazale. Her husband, son, and her own in a 4 room house made of rock and cement with a tin roof. They have a latrine, shower, kitchen and running water in their yard.

She enjoys the work because she is able to talk to the people all day long. She likes to help patients and their families to understand the clinic and gives health advice to parents as well. She doesn’t like to see parents that are negligent with their children.

One story that she will always remember is of a baby with Down’s Syndrome. The mother was having a hard time caring for the child when he was small. He didn’t want to eat like her other kids and he cried alot. He was weak and couldn’t even sit up. He was malnourished and put on the feeding program. She was able to weigh him each visit and encourage the mom. The mom really loved her son, but didn’t know how to best care for him. She did a great job once she had the knowledge and tools. His weight increased weekly and he was getting stronger. He graduated the program, but still comes to clinic for occasional visits. He is walking now and a very healthy child. She was so glad that she could be an encouragement to the mother and is so satisfied to see him doing well.

To start her day, she attends the daily devotions and prayer for the clinic staff at 7:00am. Then, she cleans her table and gets the scale and other items she will need ready to go. As people come up one at a time, they get their chart and then come over to her table. She does the vitals signs and writes them on their chart. She tells the person where to sit and wait for the doctor or nurse to see them. She watches the porch and front of the clinic for any problems and corrects anyone who doing anything wrong. If she is done early or has extra time, she will help the nurses or work in the pharmacy counting and bagging up pills.

Her job helps her because the income helps her family. Her job helps others because she is able to teach and encourage patients. She is proud that her work is improving the health of others.

She likes living in Cazale because she’s always lived here. Her friends and family are here. She likes to live close to her mom to help her. She thinks Cazale needs a better road; but, more than that, they need everyone to put their heads together, collaborate together, and work together to get things done.

RHFH helps the area to have better health and has increased the standard of living over the 22 years the mission has been working in Cazale. She especially likes to know that RHFH helps those is emergency situations with transport, money, referrals, and extra care to make sure they get good care when they are in a crisis. She thinks that there have been many lives saved because of this aid. She hopes and prays for the mission to work together better, to strengthen our weaknesses, to have a clear vision, and the means to make it happen. She wants you know that there is much good work being done at RHFH, but we still need your support to continue.

She wants everyone to know that she is a servant of God and she goes to church every chance she gets. She loves the church and fellowshipping with others. It makes her very happy to serve in the church and to be a Christian. She goes to the Bethesda Baptist in Cazale. She asks for prayer for her family, especially her mother of 78 years (good health and strength to care for her). She also asks for prayer for herself that she would continue to grow stronger in the Lord.

I miss the staff dearly and appreciate all the hard work Rilia does. I love the idea of everyone in Cazale putting their heads together to make for a better Cazale. I pray missions will become stronger and stronger and then one day will not even be needed😘
