2ND UPDATE: NEED MET! Thank you so much!!!

UPDATE: No funds were given for Magdala last month in September when we first published this post. Her health is getting worse and we would like to ask you to pray and also consider giving towards some special testing that needs to be done to help with her treatment. Thank you!

ORIGINAL POST: When we saw Magdala at clinic in mid-July, she was in great need of love and help with her medical care. She has had 5 children. Two has died and the father took off with the other three leaving her alone and without support. Though she lives in a room of a house in a bigger town, she doesn’t really have any family. Neighbors occasionally watch out for her and help her with food and such.

On the day that she came to the clinic, we recognized the signs of diabetes and her blood glucose was too high for the machine to register the level. Later, she revealed that she had been going to another clinic and getting a few pills, but they weren’t bringing her blood sugars down and she was loosing weight. Someone suggested that she come here, so she did. There was a acquaintance of hers that we found in clinic that same day that said they would go by the house and let them know that she was staying with us for awhile. She’s never left since we admitted her in July and no one has come to check on her.

Even with feeling so bad, she was so happy that we decided to admit her that she never stopped smiling. It’s clear that she has some development delays and issues, but she is pleasant and content. It is a miracle that she has survived as long as she has and I’m sure that it is becuase of the kindness of big-hearted Haitian neighbors who shared and looked out for her.

She always has a smile for you!

During her time with us, her blood glucose levels have stabilized with 3 insulin shots a day and she is gaining weight. Despite these improvements, she is still suffering from chronic diarrhea that has been going on for around 5 months. We would like to do some specialized lab testing to see if we can uncover the reason and correct it. We feel this would allow her to feel better, gain weight, and become more healthy. These exams with cost $126.00 and we wanted to give you the opportunity to be a part of Magdala’s healing. It’s sure to bring a smile to know that she has others that are there to support her.
