Washing for the Rescue Center

Good morning from our Rescue Center in Haiti! Today, we want to celebrate the incredible women of our laundry team who work tirelessly four days a week, ensuring the children have diapers, clothing and bedding each day.

Their day begins at sunrise. They go to the Rescue Center to collect the laundry that has been presorted for them the day before. The laundry is sorted into three barrels—diapers, clothing, and bedding. They then put the clothing into large basin and carry them on their heads to an area where they will be washed. Before they begin washing they get laundry soap, bleach and disinfect for the day.

Then the washing process begins. Each item is first soaked in water to loosen stains, then scrubbed by hand with soap and disinfectant to ensure every spot is treated. After scrubbing, the clothes are wrung out by hand and placed back into clean water for rinsing. Once rinsed, they are wrung out again and placed in basins, ready to be carried to the drying lines. Each item is draped over a line to dry.

In the afternoon, once the clothes have dried in the hot Haitian sun, the women collect and fold each item, then carry them back to the center. The laundry is then sorted into large baskets and placed on shelves for easy access by our staff.

These women’s dedication not only keeps our center hygienic but also brings a spirit of joy and resilience to their daily tasks. Their hard work is vital to our operations and deeply appreciated. Thank you to this amazing team for making such a significant impact every day!
