Read about a recovered patient-Guerline

At just 24 years old, Guerline came to our clinic just eight days after giving birth, very sick and in need of urgent care.

She was weak and frightened. She had been coughing often and was having trouble breathing. She also had chest pain and a sore throat. Her face and legs were swollen, and even moving was difficult for her.

When our medical team examined her, they heard crackling sounds in her lungs. It was clear that she had a serious problem with fluid in her body and needed treatment right away.

Our team began treatment immediately. Guerline received intravenous furosemide every six hours to help remove the extra fluid from her body. She was also given other much needed medications. Her vital signs were checked every three hours so that our doctors and nurses could closely follow her condition.

Blood tests also showed that Guerline was severely anemic, She was started on iron to help improve her blood levels and strength.

For several days, Guerline remained at the clinic under close observation. Our doctors and nurses watched her carefully around the clock. They monitored her breathing, heart, vital signs, and overall condition while continuing her treatment.

Then, little by little, we began to see a change.

Guerline’s breathing became easier. The swelling in her face and legs went away. Her strength began to return, and her vital signs returned to normal. Follow-up blood work showed that her hemoglobin had increased.

Guerline was getting better.

Once she was stable and strong enough to return home, our medical team discharged her with medication and a plan for monthly follow-up visits. Guerline continued to follow her treatment plan and returned for her appointments. With each visit, she grew stronger.

Today, Guerline is doing very well. She is healthy, caring for herself, and able to care for her child without the fear and physical suffering she experienced when she first came to us.

Guerline’s story is a reminder of how quickly a young mother’s health can change after giving birth and how important it is to have access to medical care when that happens.

We are deeply thankful to the generous donors who make this care possible. Because of your support, Guerline received the treatment she needed when she was very sick. Your generosity gave her the chance to recover and return home to her child.

Because of you, Guerline has a healthier future—and the opportunity to be there for her child as they grow.
