Orisna is a 56-year-old woman from a remote community nearly a nine-hour walk from our clinic. Because the journey is too long to complete in one day, Orisna travels to Cazale the day before her appointment and spends the night with relatives so she can arrive at the clinic early the next morning.
Since June 2025, Orisna has faithfully returned each month for treatment and monitoring of high blood pressure. When she first came to our clinic, her blood pressure was as high as 180/100. She was experiencing headaches, knee pain, and frequent exhaustion that made everyday activities difficult.
For Orisna, managing her health requires more than simply taking medication. Every month, she must plan her journey, leave her home, spend the night away from her family, and make the long trip to the clinic. Although high blood pressure requires lifelong management, regular treatment and monitoring can help control it and reduce the risk of serious complications.
Our clinic provides Orisna with the medication she needs each month to manage her blood pressure and continue living her daily life. Her story reminds us of the challenges many people in rural Haiti face when seeking healthcare. For patients living far from medical facilities, something as simple as receiving medication can require tremendous effort and sacrifice.
We are grateful that, through the support of our donors, we can help make ongoing medical care possible for patients like Orisna.
