Matching funds for the new cholera house

So when Lori started talking about jumping out of a plane several weeks ago, I thought it was just talk and she was not really going to do that.  I am actually very nervous about this.  Lori loves adventure, so she is all for it.  Lori and I, of course grew up together, we roomed together in college and were apart two years before we were back together in Haiti.  We have been together since then.  We have been through-um-a lot together.  We could not just write a book, but I am sure a series about our adventures.  We only blog a little bit of our daily lives here.   I love her, she is my best friend.  Now about this new cholera house.  When we heard that cholera was in Haiti we started right away to prepare.  The house we are currently using was set up with these cots, nice newly painted IV poles and clip boards.  Just waiting for someone to fill them.  Little did we know that this month we would hit 4000 patients.

That first night Lori looked at me like this

and said if we start taking patients it would be a commitment of several years.  So that night we needed to make sure that was what we wanted to do-make a long term decision to care for cholera patients.  We all decided yes.

Little did we know that we would one day have over 100 patients sleeping in our 25 bed house.

RHFH has purchased land that we plan to begin building on for our larger facility for RHFH.  When we made a plan up with EMI last year, cholera was not around.  Now we find ourselves planning a 100 bed hospital for these cholera patients.  This facility will be our first building on the new land.  Lori has a rough draft plan that she is working on.  The owner of the house where our cholera patients are at now, has been letting use the facility rent free. We together have  set a goal date for Jan 2012 to be moved out.  That gives us a short amount of time to raise a large amount of funds.  So Lori is deciding that she is going to jump out of a plane to jump start this fund raiser.  I think she is crazy but know her passion for caring for those that are ill.  Seeing someone carried in on a door of a house and then a few days later being able to walk home healed is something you will not forget. The amount of lives that are being touched for Jesus cannot be numbered.  He is using something as terrible as cholera to change the hearts of many.

Someone today is giving us a chance for some matching funds.  They are offering $1500.00 to the new cholera house it we can match that.  Lori, Charlie and Anna left this morning.  They will be spending 10 days in CA. That is where she is planning to jump from the plane with Anna.  I am still very nervous for her but believe in her.  I want to send her the email that says the goal it met-go jump!

This morning on her way to the airport she was able to snap this shot of the new location of the cholera house.  We already have rocks being collected with the new dump truck.  The other equipment is on a ship making its way to Haiti right now (hoping the TS Emily misses the ship).  And so very soon we will begin our 18 year dream of building.  It might not be a big deal to you, but it is to us.  It is a huge deal to our community.  We learned a long time ago that God is so much bigger than we can even imagine.  He is able!  We believe it!

Donations can be made though the paypal link in the upper right hand corner on the web site or sent to our home office -Real Hope for Haiti/P.O. Box 23/Elwood, IN/46036 please include a note or memo letting us know it is for the cholera hospital.  You can read the original post here

I always love reading the blog, but this one in particular I enjoy very much because I can genuinely hear you saying this and everything you said is oh-so-true. Caroline, Anna, Erin – Amazing. (I really want to meet Hannah!) Who would’ve thought that 4 or 5 months ago when y’all were worrying about not having enough for the volunteers to do that God already had all of this planned for His Glory??? He is so much bigger than us!!! (AHHH one of the many reasons I love Him.) Keep on going ladies 🙂
